HOW DID IT TURN OUT?
As part of a marketing campaign for the designer brand Louis Vuitton before the World Cup, two of the greatest players in history sat down for a chess match. Ronaldo expressed his desire to continue the rivalry between the two trailblazers during the shoot.
THESE ARE THE WORDS HE SAID:
According to the 37-year-old, it will be his fifth World Cup, and he is extremely confident that it will be a success.
“In life, we are doing checkmate, not just in chess,” he continued, referring to the photo shoot: “Let’s see. It would be nice. Since it happened in chess, it would be even more meaningful in football.”
AN OVERALL VIEW:
For the past decade and then some, Messi and Ronaldo have been continuously raising the bar and challenging each other to unfathomable new heights on the football pitch, smashing records in a bid to be regarded as the greatest football players ever. Though neither team has won the World Cup, winning it would help cement their legacy in the sport.
