Myth and History: Jujutsu Kaisen’s Ryomen Sukuna

Jujutsu Kaisen is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Gege Akutami, serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump since March 5, 2018. The story follows high school student Yūji Itadori, who gets involved in the world of jujutsu sorcerers known as the Jujutsu Tech.

The series follows Yūji Itadori, a high school student with immense physical strength and an interest in the occult. One day, while visiting his grandfather’s shrine, he encounters a cursed finger that belongs to a powerful demon. He accidentally gets possessed by the demon, but instead of losing control, he is able to maintain his own consciousness and use the demon’s powers.

He is then recruited by the Jujutsu Tech, a group of sorcerers who use ancient techniques to exorcise and seal away cursed spirits. Yūji joins the Jujutsu Tech to hone his abilities and protect humanity from the powerful and malevolent curses.

Jujutsu Kaisen is notable for its unique blend of horror, action, and comedy elements, as well as its deep and complex world-building and character development. The series has been well received both in Japan and internationally, with a high rating in the weekly manga chart and a large fanbase. It also has been adapted into anime series and live action movies.

Ryomen Sukuna, also known as the King of Curses, is a powerful and malevolent demon in the Jujutsu Kaisen series. He is the main antagonist of the story and is responsible for many of the cursed spirits that the Jujutsu Tech must exorcise.

According to the series’ lore, Ryomen Sukuna was once a human king who became a demon after making a deal with evil spirits. He was eventually defeated by the jujutsu sorcerers of the past and his body was split into twenty fingers, each containing a fragment of his immense power.

These fingers were scattered across Japan and were highly sought after by both jujutsu sorcerers and cursed spirits for their immense power. Possessing one of these fingers would grant immense power, but also curse the individual and ultimately lead to their death.

Ryomen Sukuna is said to be the most powerful and malevolent curse to ever exist, and his resurrection would bring about the end of the world. The Jujutsu Tech and other sorcerers are dedicated to keeping the fingers of Ryomen Sukuna sealed away and preventing his resurrection.

In the story, Yūji Itadori, the protagonist, accidentally gets possessed by one of Sukuna’s fingers, and that sets the main plot in motion.

Jujutsu Kaisen is a manga and anime series, and as such, the characters within the series have different personalities. The main character, Yuji Itadori, is determined, compassionate, and selfless.
